Russian President Dmitry Medvedev & Ukrainie's President Viktor Yanukovych KIEV, Ukraine – Russian President Dmitry Medvedev is visiting Ukraine to boost ties between the two ex-Soviet neighbors.
Medvedev's visit began Monday. He's expected to sign a border demarcation agreement and several other deals.
Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych has advocated stronger ties with Russia, reversing his predecessor's attempts to decrease Moscow's influence.
Last month, Yanukovych signed a deal allowing Russia to extend its lease of the Black Sea Port of Sevastopol for 25 years after the current agreement expires in 2017. Russia rewarded Ukraine with deep discounts for natural gas.
Russia also has proposed a merger of its state gas monopoly, Gazprom, and Ukraine's Naftogaz.
